Music Scholarships & Competitions
Below is a list of scholarships and competitions GRYS & CO members have been awarded in past years. These opportunities exist outside of the Grand Rapids Youth Symphony & Classical Orchestra, and you can find more information at the links below.

The Grand Rapids Symphony Mosaic Scholarship provides funds for underrepresented students to take one-on-one lessons with GRS musicians, as well as experience workshops and performances with creative leaders. The scholarship is for one school year and is open to any student aged 12-18 living in or attending school in Kent County who has been playing their instrument for at least one school year. Students must also be enrolled in their school band or orchestra if available.

Hundreds of scholarships are available for Kent County high school and college students, a few of which are specific to music. Students can apply for many scholarships using a general application; a separate application is required for certain additional scholarships. For details, search for keywords such as music, fine arts, and performing arts.

Michigan competitions and awards for students (grades 10-12) studying brass, organ, piano, percussion, strings, voice and woodwinds.
The National Federation of Music Clubs (NFMC) offers more than $750,000 in competition and award prizes on the local, state and national level. -
The competition facilitates musical & personal growth for over 200 students annually.
All participants receive a professional recording and written comments from judges, each of whom is a distinguished performer and educator.
Students compete in two divisions: MYAC (must be enrolled in MYAC's Orchestra Program) and Open
Each division has two levels: Junior (students in 8th grade or younger) and Senior (students in 9th-12th grade)

The OPUS Music Competition is one of the largest music competitions in the United States for violin, viola, cello, double bass, and piano. Students are evaluated by accomplished musicians from top institutions receiving detailed comments to support growth and musical development. Winners receive unique diplomas, titles, and opportunities to be featured. All prize winners have the opportunity to compete in the OPUS Nationals.

The Stulberg Competition in Kalamazoo, MI, is open to students (ages 19 and under) of violin, viola, cello or double bass
